Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires up to four additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training. As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, our doctors manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. We can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries and TMJ disorders, and perform a full range of other dental procedures.

The surgical staff at The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Center, P.A. are experienced oral and maxillofacial surgical assistants whose goal is to make the patient experience as pleasant as possible. We also have a trained nurse (LPN) to assist in surgery. All staff are CPR-certified and are informed administrative personnel, well-versed in health and insurance policies.
Should your medical history or treatment necessitate hospital admission, Dr. Thames or Dr. Alexander will be happy to treat you as an inpatient. Both doctors hold full privileges at local hospitals.

Clay B. Thames, D.D.S.

Dr. Thames has been in private practice since 1995 when he joined his brother, Dr. Scott F. Thames, with The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Center. He is a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi and Louisiana State University, School of Dentistry. He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery internship and residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He maintains privileges at Forrest General Hospital, Merit Health Wesley, and South Central Regional Medical Center.

Darren K. Alexander, D.M.D.

Dr. Alexander received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Mississippi before graduating at the top of his dental school class at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. After dental school, Dr. Alexander completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Idaho State University and then practiced general dentistry on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for seven years.  
Upon making the decision to specialize in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Alexander completed his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he served as chief resident during his final year.
